SCHOOL GOVERNORS

The governing body has a range of duties and powers and a general responsibility for the conduct of the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement including setting targets for pupil achievement, managing the school's finances, making sure the curriculum is balanced and broadly based, appointing staff and reviewing staff performance and pay and many more.

The governing body has considerable discretion as to how to discharge its responsibilities but is required to constitute itself in line with the regulations and to appoint a chair and vice chair. The governing body may delegate certain of its responsibilities to certain governors or committees of governors, although in general, it is not compelled to do so.

The Ethos Statement, taken from the School's Instrument of Government, states:

"Recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at parish and diocesan level.

The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality with the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes values through the experience it offers to all its pupils."

The Governors can be contacted either by email, through the contact page on this site, or via the School Office.

It is a requirement to publish a Register of Governors and their Interests. We have also published a Committee Structure.

The School is governed by the following Governors, assisted by the Clerk, Diane Merker :

I have two children at Cradley School, who both enjoy being part of the school. I am passionate about Education and the importance it plays in a child’s life and I wanted to support the school in the part it plays in the development of young minds. I am a teacher myself so bring to the role of governor a knowledge of education and the value it brings to young people both academically and morally.

My wife Lucy and I moved to Malvern nearly 5 years ago with our two children, Sophie and Byron, who both attend the school. I’m responsible for several product testing laboratories across the UK however, I am fortunate enough to be able to work from home most of the time which provides the opportunity to help and support my community and Cradley School. My day job is focused on nurturing and developing my team, finding innovative solutions to daily challenges, and seeking opportunities for continuous improvement; I believe this gives me some of the tools and experience necessary to help ensure the school and its children flourish.

I moved in to the village recently, having previously lived in Surrey, and Suffolk. I have been a primary teacher for over 30 years, and been involved in many changes to education during this time. Having served as a teacher governor at my previous school, I am delighted to join the governors at Cradley, and keen to put my experience and enthusiasm for education to good use. My particular interests are music, literacy, science and RE, but as a primary teacher I have taught most curricular areas. I am involved in St James the Great Church and I enjoy walking, gardening and singing in choirs.

I have been a governor since I became Rector of Cradley with Mathon and Storridge in 2007. As Cradley is a church school, it rather goes with the job! For the first three or four years I was Chair of Governors, and since then have been one of the Vice-Chairs in support of Eryl Copp: and now am a member of the governors' committee dealing with Children, Families and Community. I see this as an important aspect of my care and concern for the people of the parish, particularly the younger ones. I did train as a teacher myself more than thirty years ago, and worked in parishes in Bristol and in Milton Keynes before coming to Cradley.

I moved to Cradley in December 2014 from Berkshire to have a more rural lifestyle, be part of a village community and to be closer to family. I grew up in Malvern and love being back in the countryside. I am married to Jack and we have two young boys. I am a Management Consultant and work for a London firm, but work from home most of the time, which allows me to juggle the commitments of everyday life. I'm passionate about providing opportunity for development for younger generations and look forward to supporting the school.
